Tall, Dark and Handsome

I am selling my Thoroughbred,  Rula Bula.  He is a HUGE, POWERFUL animal, but his size is coupled with athleticism and elegance.

(Click on the above and below two pictures to see videos of Rula!) Rula Bula came to live here when he was almost 3 years old. I have been the one riding him. Despite him being a Jockey Club registered Thoroughbred, most horse people guess him to be a Quarter Horse. He is between 16.2-16.3H and weighs about 1200-1300 pounds. His rear end is huge with very well developed gaskin muscles. Even when we are in a time period when I am not riding consistently, he keeps a well defined muscled look.

All of his gaits are very steady, and very smooth. His jog is very easy to sit, as is his canter. All of his gaits are enjoyable.

His registered name is My Gold King, and his lines include Bold Ruler (father of Secretariat), Native Dancer, Fleet Contessa, Northern Dancer with his confirmation supporting his excellent breeding. He originally was bred for the track by Debbie O'Brien, and was born on May 23, 1999. He is 7 years old.

Rula has never been lame at all in my 4 years with him and moves very beautifully. He has been ridden consistently while with me. He does not have any conformational problems such as crooked legs, etc. He is very correct. He is not a horse though that should be used for jumping, barrels or roping. I don't want him used in those disciplines.

I have never shown Rula Bula due to being the "groom" to 3 little girls at the shows, but he is trained for Western Pleasure and has  a beautiful slow jog that is as smooth as could be. His head set has developed nicely, as well as  a rocking horse lope. He is very soft and gives his head to either side while working at the various gates. He follows my weight and shoulders and understands to turn with me. In other words, I can ride him without using a lot of rein. He picks up either lead from a standstill. He sidesteps, trots laterally, and backs up easily.

Overall, he is a very quiet horse that tends to be on the lazy side.  Once in a rare while, something gets him excited though and I remember he is a Thoroughbred. Even when I lunge Rula, he drops his head and does a slow little jog. To see a video of him jogging on the lunge line, please click on the picture below.

Despite him being calm overall, I would still only put confident riders on him due to him being a young Thoroughbred, and I would not sell him as a family "horse".  He is one of the most powerful horses I have known. Rula is a pleasure to be around and to ride. I did have my first person come look at him on November 9, and she said he was very lazy :) Yes, he has more whoa than go.

He loves affection, is a curious, friendly horse and will trot across the pasture when I ask him to. When he first came here, I played with Parelli techniques with him and that is what taught him to turn and face me when I ask him to, and to come across the pasture. He is a joy to work in a round pen at liberty both due to watching his beauty and due to his playfulness. He loves being loved on and is follows us around begging for some attention. Click on the picture below to watch a video of him running in the roundpen.

He is an excellent candidate for more Dressage training. I had one lady ask me what dressage training he has had. He understands collection and you can actually feel him lift his back when you ask with his legs. He is wonderful to ride. There are 3 videos of long trotting on here.

In many of these pictures, Rula is sun bleached from being out in the pasture. He can stay almost black if kept out of the sun.

He does have a tail that will grow to the ground if kept protected. It is thick and black. Rula Bula is for sale at $4000.  Please contact me (Beth) at flyingranch@msn.com or at 623 694 9431.
